BREVARD COUNTY — Without a doubt, One Senior Place is a valuable resource to the community, and for 15 years, it has provided advice, care and on-site services to seniors and their families.

After a year of isolation, more and more seniors are venturing out now that vaccinations have become available to the public.

One Senior Place will offer a week of outdoor events with informational sessions, live entertainment and a movie.

An RSVP is required to secure a spot at each event, as limited seating will be available. All events are free. The event will run from May 11 to May 14 at 8085 Spyglass Hill Road, Melbourne.

Tuesday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m. will feature “Ask the Doctor: I’m Vaccinated, Now What?” a lunch-n-learn event with Dr. Peterson with VITAS Healthcare. It will be followed by a presentation at 2 p.m. by Oceans Realty to discuss the hot housing market with “Sold in a Second.”

Wednesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. will feature chefs from nine senior living communities who will serve a variety of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres for “A Taste of Senior Living.”

Thursday, May 13 at noon will feature Harbor City Harmonizers, a barbershop quartet, and a serving of ice cream sundaes. Following this serenade, “Casablanca” will be screened at 2 p.m. and popcorn will be available.

Friday, May 14 at 1:30 p.m. will feature beach bingo. The Lenand10 food truck will have meals available for $5 before bingo starts.

“With people getting vaccinated and coming out of their homes, we felt it was important to welcome them back with some transitional events,” said Barbara Fradkin, director of One Senior Place. “Having this event outside makes everyone feel more comfortable and gives them healthy space to socialize and see more people, without feeling closed inside a room.”

Ms. Fradkin added that the center may begin to increase numbers for its indoor presentations soon as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently revised its guidance for fully vaccinated people.

“One Senior Place has a great reputation in the community,” Ms. Fradkin said. “We have helped many, many hundreds of families over the past 15 years and word gets around. Everyone who works in One Senior Place has the same focus: to help seniors and their families understand and cope with the issues associated with getting older.

“We want to ensure that every senior has the best quality of life possible as they age,” she continued. “If we can help just one senior each day achieve their goals for a better life, then we are doing a great job.”
