Q: Where Can I Find Senior Discounts?
Senior citizen discounts across Central Florida are a fantastic way to stretch your budget. Whether you’re shopping for household items, dining out, or exploring entertainment options, the perks are everywhere! It pays to know who offers them – and their definition of “senior.”
Weekly Specials
Maximize your savings at national retail brands by shopping during their dedicated “Senior Days.”
- Tuesdays: Apparel chains like Ross offer a 10% discount to shoppers aged 55 or older every Tuesday. It is also a great day to browse racks at Nordstrom Rack or catch a movie, as most regional theater chains run Tuesday ticket specials.
- Wednesdays: Department stores like Kohl’s feature a 15% in-store discount—automatically applied at checkout for customers aged 60 and up.
- Monthly Specials: On the first Tuesday of every month, Walgreens offers a robust 20% discount on eligible regular-priced items for customers aged 55+ who are also members of the MyWalgreens loyalty program. Just mention the Seniors Day discount. Online, use promo code senior20.
Delicious Savings
National and regional chain restaurants often offer senior pricing or “early bird” menus. Many others provide 10% off or free beverage promotions for diners who meet their age threshold (typically starting at 50 or 55). Using a food delivery app? Look for the senior discount checkbox.
Local Attractions
Central Florida boasts incredible, highly accessible attractions that offer permanent or special price reductions for senior residents:
- Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art: This Winter Park museum is famed for its collection of Tiffany glass. General admission is just $7 for guests aged 60 and older.
- Orlando Museum of Art: Situated in Loch Haven Park, this institution significantly drops its $20 adult entry down to $12 for seniors 60+.
- Kennedy Space Center: In Brevard, seniors aged 62 and older receive $5 off standard daily admission tickets. Check the October Salute to Brevard dates for $21 admissions (up to six per party).
- Brevard Zoo December Special: $10 admission for Florida seniors aged 65 and older Dec. 1-24, with proof of residency.
Go Online
Because deals change frequently, let the online experts do the heavy lifting. Websites like theseniorlist.com and seniorliving.org compile and verify thousands of national discounts by category and age bracket.
Don’t forget about AARP and AAA. The senior discounts in eight main categories easily outweigh their modest annual fees. Members can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year on everything from daily deals to dream vacations.
Of course, to find unadvertised specials the old fashioned way, simply ask, “Do you offer a senior discount?” –before the cashier scans your items. Happy bargain hunting!
