Music of changing seasons at Suntree United Methodist Church October 27. In the fall, many people travel north in hopes of seeing the changing colors of the season. Fans of the Space Coast Flute Orchestra can stay right here in Brevard and experience, Autumn Around the World on Sunday, October 27 at 3:00 PM at Suntree United Methodist Church in north Melbourne. The free concert at 7400 N. Wickham Road, 32940 will recall crisp nights, changing leaves and the magic of autumn with songs arranged for flutes, all under the direction of the group’s long-time member and new conductor, Susan McQuinn.
One of the largest regularly rehearsed flute orchestras in the U.S., the Space Coast Flute Orchestra will perform selections that bring autumn to mind, including the “Autumn” movement of Vivaldi’s The Four Season,” the meditative “Autumn Vespers” and “Let There be Peace on Earth and Let it Begin with Me.” The audience will hear works by international composers, such as Edvard Grieg’s “Norwegian Dance No. II” as well as music influenced by China, Russia, Korea, Jamaica and Persia. The flute orchestra of over 30 flutists will perform on the piccolo and the standard concert or C-Flute, as well as the more exotic alto, bass and contrabass members of the flute family. Several of the works on the concert were arranged for flute by the group’s favorite arranger, arr. Shaul Ben-Meir. Ben-Meir enjoys a worldwide reputation for transcriptions and arrangements of symphonic repertoire for flute orchestra. The concert is free to the public, with no tickets required and a suggested donation of $5. For more information about Autumn Around the World, call (321) 385-7236 or visit www.SCFO.org.
