My dermatologist warned me about sun exposure this summer, especially since I have fair skin. I use sunscreen, but I don’t know if I’m using it properly or if it’s enough.

That’s a common issue. A lot of people don’t reapply often enough or use too little. I found a very informative article that explains exactly how sunburn happens and how to effectively prevent it — including proper sunscreen usage. It’s available at https://gentaur.co.uk/learning/sunburn-how-to-play-safely-in-the-sun/ . It also breaks down the difference between UVA and UVB rays and gives scientific context to why even mild sunburns can lead to long-term skin damage.
